From the kitchen window I can see
The squirrel climbing high up in the tree
The deer standing between beech trees and pines
And the old grumpy fox lurking in the bramble thicket
Every morning, at breakfast hour
I take my bag and put on a warm coat
And the woollen scarf (the stripey one)
And then I walk through the wintry forest
The squirrels first
I serve them beechnuts
A little rusk
And half a carrot
In the oak tree
The blue tit is waiting eagerly
For sunflower seeds
And raisins, a handful
Three apples for the deer
A little bit of hay
And a wild beet
Is what I bring
Twelve chestnuts, four potatoes
And twenty acorns for the wild boar
That live in the dark pine forest
They are always very hungry!
Only the fox is quite choosey
I tried with quince and with crisp bread
With cucumber and with chocolate spread
Yet no luck!
In the evenings I pack my little bag
With beechnuts, apples and acorns
Sunflower seeds and raisins
For my morning walk
From the kitchen window
I can see the old grumpy fox
Still lurking in the bramble thicket
Waiting for some dainty bits
Tomorrow I'll serve him
Salsifies and pumpkin slices
Or ginger bread crumbs
We'll see!

A 53cm/ 21"tall custom doll boy for a girl that loves animals.
He travelled to his new home with a warm coat and a woollen scarf, with winter boots, comfy trousers, a shirt and a pyjama (and knickers of course). Do you remember this post? A sneak peek behind the curtains - this is how this little boy looked like when I was working on his face.
Today is winter solstice, the shortest day of the year in the Northern hemisphere. From now on it is getting brighter again, little by little. I don't mind the snow and the cold, and I gladly put a handful of raisins and sunflower seeds in my pocket to feed the blue tit and the squirrel, but I have been missing the light a lot...
Enjoy the weekend!
