Oh dear, auntie Inger says
Such a ghastly weather
Winter and not a single snowflake yet
I am soaked to the skin!
And then she folds together her umbrella
Auntie Inger always finds something to nag at
Last week it was her Christmas gifts
Yesterday the mashed potatoes and the peas
Today it is the weather
She is hopeless, mommy says
I sit by the window and watch the rain
My favourite pastime during the Christmas holidays
The rain draws the nicest patterns on the glass
Three, twelve, hundred and five glittery raindrops
Like small diamonds
When I take a closer look
Everything seems upside down
The house, the trees, my bicycle
The garden fence and the wood pile
Even the wheelbarrow stands upside down
Three, twelve, hundred and five glittery raindrops
Upside down
A perfect little world in each
Ghastly! auntie Inger says
And then she drinks her kidney tea
I sneak into the hallway
While everyone else is in the kitchen
I put on my shoes and open the door
And in a wink I am outside
Such a lovely winter rain!
I walk across the grass
Until my feet are soaking wet
Until my dress starts to dribble
Until I find the most perfect raindrop
I have never seen a more beautiful one!
Everything is upside down
When I look into the raindrop
The house, the trees, my bicycle
The garden fence and the wood pile
Even untie auntie stands upside down
Naughty girl, I can hear her scream
Are you off your head?
Come inside! Come inside!
She looks too funny!

A 55cm/ 22" custom doll for Linn.
Exactly four years ago, I made a doll for her older sister Lovisa and had written a little story about an invisible friend, winter picnics and butterflies. Lovisa still loves to read that story together with her mother, and I feel honoured that another of my dolls now has found such a loving home with their family. There is truly something special about making dolls for siblings!
I wish all my readers, students, customers and followers a joyful, creative and bright 2014!
May the new year be full of ideas, inspiration and colours!
Warmly,
Juliane
P.S. I got an email with the question whether it was responsible to put a customer's doll in the mud just to take blog photos. I can reassure you that my dolls can handle quite a bit of dirt, cold and rough handling, they are made for play, not for the shelf. It goes without saying though that I take photos with a lot of care and I make sure that no doll travels with wet feet to a new home. Dolly flu is no fun!
